Representing the second largest oil company in America, and a major player in Africa’s energy landscape, a delegation from Chevron will attend and participate at Africa’s top energy event.
The African Energy Chamber (AEC) is honored to announce that global energy major Chevron Corporation will be coming to African Energy Week (AEW) 2021 in Cape Town to participate in the conversation about Africa’s energy future. Representing the second largest oil company in America, and with an active presence in 180 countries worldwide, Chevron has and continues to be a key driver of Africa’s energy growth. With representatives from the company confirming their participation, Chevron is set to make a strong play for partnerships at AEW 2021, with the company focused on signing deals and expanding their presence in African markets.
Chevron has been one of the international oil companies (IOC) that has driven Africa’s energy sector growth over the past several decades. The company has a significant footprint in African energy markets, accelerating oil and gas development and injecting critical capital into local economies. The company has a sole mandate to increase energy access worldwide, emphasizing the role that energy plays in improving lives and driving human progress. In line with this objective, Chevron has made significant progress in Africa and across multiple sectors, including oil and gas exploration, production and distribution, as well as within the renewable energy sphere.
Chevron is committed to delivering energy worldwide, executing major projects across the world that are designed to yield decades of energy. In Africa, the company’s strongest presence is in west Africa. In Angola, the company currently holds interests in four concessions, including two offshore in the Cabinda province. Additionally, the company operates the Angola Liquified Natural Gas project; the Mafumeira Sul project; and the Lianizi project. In Nigeria, Chevron works closely with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to develop key assets in the Niger Delta. With a 40% interest in 13 concessions in the region, as well as operating the Agbami project and the Escravos Gas to Liquids project, the company is driving west Africa’s hydrocarbon sectors.

Meanwhile, Chevron is focused on mitigating environmental impacts with its recent net-zero emissions target by 2050. By reducing the company’s carbon emissions by 5% and investing up to $8 billion in carbon reduction projects – some of which include renewable energy developments – the company is making notable progress to address climate change. Specifically, Chevron has directed investments towards carbon capture and offset technologies and hydrogen projects. At AEW 2021 in Cape Town, the company will promote its current environmental activities, emphasizing the role that innovative technologies will play in driving Africa’s hydrocarbon projects whilst ensuring emissions are kept at a minimum.

AEW 2021, in partnership with South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy DMRE, is the AEC’s annual conference, exhibition and networking event. AEW 2021 unites African energy stakeholders with investors and international partners to drive industry growth and development and promote Africa as the destination for energy investments.
