Senior Manager
V&A Waterfront
Yaseen Parker is a Professional Engineer registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa. He completed his tertiary education at the University of Cape Town, and graduated in 2004 with a degree in Engineering (BSc. Electro-Mechanical Engineering). He initially pursued a career in consulting engineering with a global consulting firm, WSP Group Africa, where he was responsible for the design and project management of commercial, retail and residential mechanical building services, with his field of expertise being heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), vertical transportation and wet services. He was exposed to projects both locally and internationally. In 2008 he joined a global supplier of air conditioning equipment, Daikin Air Conditioning, where he headed their energy efficient heating division and was responsible for growing the local market for sustainable heating. His passion for developing innovative and customized design solutions was further enhanced by his exposure to the latest heating technology available, and which allowed him to tap into the efficient heating market, i.e. systems utilizing heat recovery or ‘free heating’. In 2014, he joined his alma mater, the University of Cape Town, as a Project Engineer. He was responsible for the design and project management of all HVAC systems, and ensured all university standards were being met. He quickly moved into a more senior role managing large scale construction projects from inception to completion, two notable development projects being the Graduate School of Business Conference Centre, and the Neurosciences Institute, each of these projects being in excess of R100m. In 2018 he joined the V&A Waterfront as a Senior Operations Manager, responsible for managing all mechanical infrastructure, which includes HVAC systems, vertical transportation, hydraulic bridges and pump stations. Since joining the V&A Waterfront, some of his key focuses have been optimizing maintenance processes, solving complex challenges, and implementing new technology where the opportunity allows.
